What is the difference between when a pop-up appears and when it does not during app installation? Is there a way to install apps silently without showing a pop-up?
There are two types of pop-ups displayed during app installation.
① Request for administrator permission
② Request to enter the Apple ID password
The conditions under which a pop-up is displayed differ depending on the type of app, whether the device is supervised, the Apple ID sign-in status, and so on, so see the tables below.
Silent installation is possible with a combination of supervised device settings and VPP apps.
(Pop-up shown: Yes, no pop-up: No)
| Signed in to Apple ID | Supervised | Unsupervised | ||
| Administrator permission | Apple ID | Administrator permission | Apple ID | |
| Store app (non-VPP) | No | No (Yes*1) | Yes | No (Yes*1) |
| In-house app | No | No | Yes | No |
| VPP app (*2) | No | No | Yes | No |
*1 If the password request setting on the device is ON and the Apple ID has no purchase history for the app, a pop-up is displayed
*2 The VPP app distribution method is limited to distribution by device
| Not signed in to Apple ID | Supervised | Unsupervised | ||
| Administrator permission | Apple ID | Administrator permission | Apple ID | |
| Store app (non-VPP) | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| In-house app | No | No | Yes | No |
| VPP app (*2) | No | No | Yes | No |
*2 The VPP app distribution method is limited to distribution by device
