Device sync is not executed / is not performed immediately (Android / Apple)
Even if you run "Device Sync" from the admin console, the device may not sync immediately. This is not abnormal. It is behavior that results from how Android and Apple devices work.
Even when the device is powered on, the sync may take time depending on factors such as when the notification is received.
Cause
MDM does not connect directly from the admin console to the device to perform a sync. When you run a sync from the admin console, a trigger to connect is sent to the device through a notification service, and the device connects to the MDM server and syncs when it receives that notification.
The notification service used differs depending on the OS.
- Android: Google notification service
- Apple (iOS / iPadOS, etc.): Apple Push Notification service (APNs)
For this reason, the sync timing may vary depending on the state of the device, such as the following.
- Network connection status (Wi-Fi / mobile network)
- When the notification is received
- Power-saving settings and background activity restrictions
- Processing currently running on the device
Even when the device is powered on, it may not sync immediately depending on these conditions.
What to do if the device does not sync
If the device does not sync after waiting for a while, try the following.
- Run "Device Sync" again from the admin console
- Restart the device
Restarting the device may reset the communication state and internal processing, allowing the sync to take place.
Additional note Communication and operation may be temporarily unstable around the time of an OS update. In that case, restarting the device may improve the situation.
