How long does it take to distribute VPP apps?
Apps are distributed by the sync that runs after a VPP app license is assigned.
At enrollment, app licenses are assigned immediately, and apps are distributed automatically.
After enrollment, app licenses are assigned up to 5 minutes after you assign the app to a template.
Apps are then distributed by the sync that follows the assignment (a sync command executed from the admin console, or the daily automatic sync).
While licenses are being assigned, the following message is displayed on the Sync Status tab of the Device Detail screen.
<App name>: App license has not been granted yet
After license assignment is complete, the following message is displayed on the Sync Status tab of the Device Detail screen.
<App name>: Installation by sync is required
The app installation command is sent to the device by the sync that follows license assignment.
Depending on the device's internet connection, the command normally reaches the device within a few seconds.
After the device receives the command, it communicates with Apple servers to download and install the app. You can check the communication status between the device and the MDM server in the admin console as follows.
・Time the push notification was sent from the MDM server
Device Detail screen > Device Status > Request Device Information
・Time the device that received the push notification accessed the MDM server
Device Detail screen > Device Status > Last Access
At the next sync after the app installation is complete, device information is collected, and you can confirm that the app installation is complete.
