The Apple ADE token cannot be renewed

A message such as The MDM server linked to the uploaded ADE token does not match the MDM server of the registered token may be displayed, and the token cannot be renewed.

Common cases and solutions

a) The ADE token renewal procedure on the Apple Business site was performed incorrectly

In this case, after uploading the certificate downloaded from the BizMobile Go! admin console to the MDM server on Apple Business (formerly Apple Business Manager), the ADE token was downloaded without clicking "9. Save button" in the renewal procedure that follows. Note that the token can be downloaded even if you do not click Save. To resolve this, renew the token correctly by following Renew the ADE (formerly DEP) token.

b) The ADE token was downloaded from an MDM server that is not the one to be renewed

In this case, multiple MDM servers exist in Apple Business, and the ADE token was downloaded from the wrong MDM server. To resolve this, check the MDM server currently in use at the following location in the admin console, and renew the token for the correct MDM server.

  • SETTING → Unit Detail → Apple → ADE MDM Server Name

c) The wrong ADE token was uploaded to the BizMobile Go! admin console

In this case, an old ADE token (file) was selected by mistake, for example because a previously downloaded ADE token remained in the download folder of the PC used for the ADE token renewal. Prepare the environment first, for example by deleting all files from the download folder of the PC you use, and then perform the procedure again.

Rare cases and solutions

d) The MDM server was recreated in Apple Business

In this case, the MDM server in use was deleted from Apple Business for some reason, and an MDM server was then created again. Even if you recreate it with the same name, a new MDM server that is different from the one before deletion is created, so the ADE token does not match. You need to create a new ADE profile and reassign the registered devices to the new ADE profile.

Steps

  1. Continue the renewal process (registration) with the message still displayed
  2. Create a new ADE profile
  3. Open the edit screen of the newly created ADE profile and assign all registered devices
    • Note: This makes it possible to re-register (re-enroll) registered devices (if required for some reason)
  4. Specify the newly created ADE profile as the Default ADE Profile on the ADE profile list screen
    • Note: This causes the ADE profile to be assigned automatically to newly registered devices
