Can I remove unmanaged apps from MDM?

You cannot remove unmanaged apps from MDM.
To prevent unnecessary app installations, we recommend prohibiting app installation in advance. Other possible workarounds are described below.

  • Hide the app with a profile
If the device is supervised, you can hide the target app by using Restrict app usage in the Restrictions payload of the profile.
Restrict app usage (supervised devices only)

  • Set the app to Auto Management and remove it as a managed app
An unmanaged app cannot be removed, but you can remove it by turning on Auto Management for the app to change it to a managed app.

  • Detect apps by using a whitelist/blacklist
You can register allowed apps (whitelist) or prohibited apps (blacklist) to detect when a prohibited app is installed on a device.
