iOS / iPadOS Deployment Flow
Check your deployment pattern
There are several ways to deploy iPhone and iPad devices. The deployment procedure differs depending on your conditions and the management method you want to use. Use the chart or the list to find the pattern that suits you.
-
Apple Business (formerly ABM) An Apple online portal that lets companies efficiently deploy and manage iPhone, iPad, Mac, and other devices. With it, company administrators can centrally manage bulk device setup (ADE), app distribution (VPP), user account management (Managed Apple Accounts), and more.
-
Supervised / Unsupervised The management mode of a device. The management features available through MDM differ between the two. To set a device to Supervised, which allows more management features, you must erase the device. For details, see About Supervised Mode.
-
Identifier An ID that identifies a managed device in the BizMobile Go! admin console.
-
Shared iPad A management mode in which one iPad is used by multiple people while each person's data is kept separate. Users can sign in to the iPad with a Managed Apple Account, or use it as a guest (temporary user).

-
Use VPP only (shared QR code authentication)
Using a shared QR code eliminates the need to create device information for each device in advance.

Use VPP only (per-device authentication)
Create device information in advance for each device, using an identifier of your choice.
See this page for managing iPhone and iPad devices with VPP only, using Apple Business on a per-device basis. -
Use neither ADE nor VPP (shared QR code authentication)
Using a shared QR code eliminates the need to create device information for each device in advance.
