Geofence v2
Geofence overview
The geofence service detects when a managed device enters or exits a geofence you have created (an area made up of one or more circles) and performs the actions you have configured.
To use the geofence service, the BizGo! Air app must be installed.
Available actions
| Action | Details |
|---|---|
| Switch templates | Set an inside template and an outside template, and switch between them when entry or exit is detected. (Example) Apply a profile that hides apps only to the inside (outside) template to restrict the use of specific apps inside (outside) the geofence. |
| Email notification | When entry or exit is detected, a notification email can be sent to the specified email addresses (up to 5). |
Add-on services
Add-on services are optional services that you can use in addition to Geofence v2. They cannot be used on their own and require a Geofence v2 contract. A separate application is required to use them.
| Add-on | Details |
|---|---|
| BYOD Android Camera Restriction Add-on | An additional service that, together with the Geofence v2 service, lets you prohibit camera use in the personal area. Supported only for the Android Work Profile. |
| NFC High Security Add-on | An additional service that, together with the Geofence v2 service, helps prevent unintended behavior caused by GPS inaccuracy. Android is also supported. |
Relationship between templates and profiles
With the geofence feature, entering or exiting a geofence area triggers a switch of the template assigned to the device.
The settings actually applied to the device are those of the profile linked to the template that is switched to.
For this reason, you must prepare a combination of a template and a profile for each of "inside" and "outside".
What you need
For a geofence area, create and configure the following two sets.
- Inside template + the inside profile assigned to that template
- Outside template + the outside profile assigned to that template
Specify the templates you created in the policy under When entering the geofence and When exiting the geofence.
How it works in operation
- When a device enters the area, it switches to the inside template, and the settings of the linked inside profile are applied to the device.
- When a device exits the area, it switches to the outside template, and the settings of the linked outside profile are applied to the device.
Notes and frequently asked questions
- If you specify copies of a template with only the name changed for inside and outside, the settings will not switch. Assign an inside profile to the inside template and an outside profile to the outside template.
- Even for the same OS, prepare two profiles, one for inside and one for outside.
- Because the template switches on entry and exit, the "Template" field on the Device page also switches each time the device moves.
- The BizGo! Air app must be registered in both the inside and outside templates.
Preparation
For the settings to make in the admin console so that location can be acquired, see this page.
For how to create and edit geofences, see this page.
A policy defines the target geofences and the actions to perform when a device enters or exits a geofence. You can assign a created policy to multiple devices.
For how to create and edit policies, see this page.
Set a schedule so that a silent push notification is sent once per hour to check the status of the device (whether it is inside or outside the geofence area).
For how to create and edit schedules, see this page.
For how to distribute the BizGo! Air app required for the geofence service and how to configure it on the device, see this page.
Operation
For how to check management information in the admin console, such as operation logs and the geofence entry and exit status of devices, see this page.
How to use the add-ons
For how to distribute the apps used with each add-on and how to operate them on the device, see these pages.
